WIMBISH SCHOOL NEWS

The summer term has begun and is living up to it's name with lovely summer weather, which has delighted the children, notably because at long last the field has dried out enough to allow them to play on it. We have been lucky enough to enjoy the marvellous display of cowslips which have adorned the wildlife area. I do hope that some of you were able to pop over on bank holiday weekend and see them for yourselves. Unfortunately this most recent weekend we have had some unwanted visitors on the school field and premises, and they have made a mess of several parts of the school. I do hope the local community will help be vigilant especially in the light evenings and at weekends, as we don't want any more vandalism at the school.

The summer term gives additional opportunities for the children to learn outdoors. As part of their science and RE topic work Green class are walking to Wimbish Church, enjoying the scenery as they go. Many children have signed up for clubs which this term include athletics, rounders, football, gardening and of course maypole dancing.

In class, the children continue to work their hardest with their end of year assessments, which should be completed by the half term holiday. We have had the opportunity to run a series of 'Family learning sessions' this term on the theme Maths through Cooking. The parents, including some Debden mums are coming along on a Wednesday afternoon firstly to learn about maths they can use to help their children. They are then joined by their children for the second hour to prepare a meal to take home for their tea. It was wonderful to watch children from reception to Year 6 working alongside their parents, and we hope they enjoyed eating their meals once they got home.

You may have seen in the local newspaper that we are due to say farewell to our wonderful caretaker, Mr Terry Brand. He has been a great asset to the school, with his mastery of DIY, knowledge of Health and Safety and general dedication to the school. It will be hard to find a replacement, and we shall miss Terry dearly.
