Tree Preservation Orders in WimbishThe district council is able to create tree preservation orders to protect individual trees (T), whole Woods (W), Groups of trees (G) and trees in areas (A - often hedgerow areas but that does not protect the whole hedge, only the trees in it). Wimbish has TPOs of all four types – the great majority of them on the Wimbish Hall Estate. Usually TPOs are made to protect trees in gardens, towns & public open spaces but those on the Wimbish Hall Estate were made in 1993 to protect practically all the trees on the estate following the removal of trees by the then owner of the estate who was fined following prosecution by the Forestry Commission. There is a full list of Wimbish TPOs below Below is a special Googlemap for Wimbish showing all the TPOs and giving details of each. Most also have a photo of the trees protected by each TPO and others will be added as they become available Use the LARGE MAP if you have difficulty with the small one on this page. Note this map is maintained by David Corke and is not the responsibility of Wimbish Parish Council. All the TPOs of which we are aware (from the UDC website & Parish Council Records) are included together with some notes on points which are unclear. Official guidance on the tree preservation orders and how they work is available on http://www.communities.gov.uk/publications/planningandbuilding/tposguide Note: almost all trees on farms require a felling licence from the Forestry Commission - whether or not they are subject to a TPO. Forestry commission permission to fell or work on trees over-rides TPO protection For full details see: http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/INFD-5YGFRM. If you believe any trees protected by TPOS in Wimbish are being felled or damaged without permission, phone Ben Smeedon at Uttlesford District Council immediately (01799 599 510510). Contact the Parish Council if you wish them to try and obtain TPOs for other trees in the village |
