Meetings Held
WRAG Meeting 13th August 2007 at Wimbish Recreation
Ground
Present: Chris Stoneham for Highways Dept, and Mike
Young (PC Chair), Edward Browne (PC Vice-Chair), Lindy
Scanlan (PC member) and John Bullough for WRAG
1. Traffic calming and waiting restrictions
in Tye Green: CS advised that the street lighting will
be installed Sep/Oct, given satisfactory outcome of
informal consultation, the previous consultation having
expired. After connection of this lighting, speed cushions
will then be installed (approx. Dec/Jan, again given
satisfactory outcome of informal consultation). Members
of the PC present at the meeting supported this plan.
2. Speed mgt options in Howlett End,
Mill Road and Elder Street: General concern was expressed
concerning recent accidents on Wimbish roads. CS agreed
to send the PC the latest speed surveys results. CS
commented that Highways is investigating the scope
for additional speed restrictions in Maple Lane. Members
of the PC who were present expressed support in principle
for Community Speed Watch. CS agreed to advise ECC
policy on this.
3. Roadside footpaths in Wimbish:
Members reiterated the Wimbish community’s wish
to have roadside footpaths installed in Wimbish, provided
these did not materially change the rural character
of our lanes. A request for support had been made in
a meeting with Highways dept in 2005 and Highways had
agreed to seek budget support for the project. CS agreed
to advise on the status of this project within Highways
dept.
4. Vehicle activated signs: Members
again reiterated a strong wish to see such signs installed
at suitable locations within Wimbish. CS agreed to
check whether ECC’s criteria for these signs
are met in Wimbish. Highways is considering signs which
are mounted on fixed posts and can be moved relatively
easily from one location to another. Cost is £4,000
each. Could install by Christmas 2007, given PC willingness
to contribute a proportion of the cost, and given satisfaction
of ECC criteria. PC to review at next PC meeting.
5. AOB: CS confirmed that UDC has been selected as a pilot
district for the ‘Quiet Lanes’ project.
It was pointed out that several of Wimbish’ lanes
might fall into this category. CS agreed to review
and report back.
